Hockey Development International “Team Western Selects” Alumnus Curtis Lazar, chosen 2nd overall in the annual WHL Bantam Draft.

Curtis Lazar and Mason Geertsen stood grinning from ear to ear in the Edmonton Oil Kings locker room Saturday, both excited for their future with the Oil Kings.

Perhaps even more excited was General Manager Bob Green, who had the pleasure of formally introducing both of his first round picks from the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft to the media.
“Curtis brings a lot of scoring and quickness,” says Green of the 15-year-old forward. “He competes extremely hard and we were very happy to get him.”
Lazar, a speedy centre who is 5′ 10″ and 156lbs, was drafted second overall with the Oil Kings’ first pick and then when they traded up to Everett’s 18th pick they snagged big defenseman Mason Geertsen who stands in at 6’1″ and 165lbs.

Green introduced Lazar and Geertsen giving them jerseys and hats and welcoming them to the Oil Kings family.
“It’s unbelievable,” says Lazar, who played last season with the Kelowna Pursuit of Excellence. “I know that in a couple of years we will have a strong team, and hopefully make a deep playoff run. I just want to be a part of it, and I want to contribute in any way I can.”
